about

Written probably around the year 2000, recorded at Soundpark a few years later and then Lou's vocal's added at Brunswick Arranging, years on again. I finally mixed a version I was content with in 2013....I'm learning to let go. Thanks to Lou for all her patience in recording this. She wrote the "Actors and acrobats" line too. Credit where credit is due.

lyrics

Life of her own

Afraid of the life being led by her family
She travelled the road to a life of her own
The pictures she painted described her obscurity
Loneliness filled her like she’d never known

Chorus:
Every day she’d be weeping and hiding
Wandering pining and staring to sea
Magical sparkles of glittering moonlight
Show her the path to a life of her own

The magazines sold her a picture of destiny
Dresses and make-up and cars of her own
Actors and acrobats wrapped in a fantasy
Sold her the dream world by TV and phone

Every day she’d be weeping and hiding
Wandering pining and staring to sea
Magical sparkles of glittering moonlight
Show her the path to a life of her own

The time as a young girl she always had everything
Daddy would give her what she ought to have
Presents and jewelry were just the beginning
Serving to silence the voice of her own

Then she struck a blow
She soon would go to a hideaway safe
Another world just like her dreams
Such a wondrous place
A million stars up in the sky
They would glow in the night
No need to cry, no need to run
They’d be no need to fight

Anonymous phone calls had stirred a reaction
Seems that the neighbours had something to say
The bruises he gave her were only a fraction
Of what he would feel when they put him away

Every day she’d be laughing and playing
Swirling and swaying and staring to sea
Magical sparkles of red and blue flashlight
Showed her the path to a life of her own
